Bold new cultural landmark Corner Corner brings live music, food and London’s biggest integrated vertical farm to British Land and AustralianSuper’s masterplan
Corner Corner, a new multi-use entertainment venue, has opened its doors at Canada Water. Spanning over 55,000 sq ft, Corner Corner has been curated by events, venue and entertainment specialists Broadwick and street food pioneers KERB as a bold cultural landmark within British Land and AustralianSuper’s Canada Water Masterplan.
Located in former retail space in Surrey Quays Shopping Centre and overlooking the newly refurbished Canada Dock, the concept brings together four food vendors in a visually stunning food hall, innovative urban farming, and a contemporary jazz club. It is home to the UK’s first Minecraft immersive experience, Minecraft Experience: Village Rescue, which sold over 100,000 tickets in its first week of sale.
Already well established in the area as the operator of Printworks London, Broadwick will oversee Corner Corner’s live music, which includes resident DJs, a programme of live jazz performances and ticketed shows. The line-up will include influential artists such as Mercury Prize-winning Denys Baptiste and Grammy-nominated Acantha Lang.
The food hall has been curated by KERB, operator of Seven Dials Market in Covent Garden. Corner Corner also hosts London’s biggest commercial indoor vertical farm, developed by Harvest London. It provides a diverse range of fresh, locally grown produce directly to the food hall and all-day café and will supply restaurants across London.
Corner Corner is the newest in a line of ambitious meanwhile use leisure projects that British Land has delivered in London, including Pergola at Paddington Central and Printworks London at Canada Water.
Alice Keown, Leasing Director Restaurants and Leisure, British Land, said: “British Land has worked with Broadwick and KERB, leading organisations in their sector, for many years. Their fresh thinking and new ideas never cease to amaze, and Corner Corner will be no different. It will play a central role in establishing Canada Water as one of London’s most dynamic neighbourhoods. Whether you’re a visitor to the area, an office worker, or a local resident, this new cultural venue will keep people returning to Canada Water.”
Simon Tracey, CEO of Broadwick, said: “Corner Corner is about rethinking what spaces like this can do — from cultivating an environment where the most exciting talent in the jazz scene want to perform, to installing a one-of-a-kind vertical farm that makes sustainability both visually stunning and integral to the food on your plate. Everything about Corner Corner is groundbreaking - it is a landmark project for Canada Water and London’s cultural scene.”
Corner Corner’s opening follows the recent announcement of the first two retail lettings within newly built spaces at Canada Water, Sushi Revolution and The Village Tree, which will open their doors later this year.
Spanning 53-acres, the Canada Water Masterplan is one of the capital’s most highly anticipated developments. Offering around 3,000 new homes, 2m sq ft of workspace catering to 20,000 workers, 1m sq ft of retail, leisure and education amenity and 12 acres of new open space, including a 3.5-acre public park, Canada Water is a new destination for central London.
The first phase of the Canada Water development completes this year, delivering 300,000 sq ft of workspace and 13,000 sq ft of retail at Three Deal Porters and Dock Shed, a new leisure centre for Southwark Council and 186 new homes at The Founding. Corner Corner’s opening provides fresh new amenity for businesses, visitors brought to the area and local people.
