I joined British Land through its Commercial Property Graduate Scheme, which enabled me to gain a wide array of experience across three distinct teams - Property Management, Analysis and Leasing. This opportunity provided me with a solid foundation to kickstart my career and enhance my understanding and knowledge of the commercial real estate industry.

Having passed the APC and therefore gained chartership under the RICS, I secured a full-time role at British Land.

My entry into this full-time position came after Head of Analysis, Richard Hunt, had a conversation with me about a role. Straight off the bat I knew a position in this team would interest me as I hadn’t worked in Development Analysis before. As I saw it, it was a great opportunity to continue my learning and develop new skills. This role also gave me a chance to work with teams that I didn’t cross paths with during the graduate scheme, namely Development & Investment.

For me, it’s this element of the culture which makes me passionate to work at BL: it has felt like a perfect place to learn and grow. Everyone is approachable, and it’s really struck me how generously people invest their time in helping others progress. ‘Continuous development’ isn’t just a talking point, but it’s really evident from the conversations I’ve had with my peers. For example, we see many internal moves within the company, evidence that people can take charge of their own careers in a way that matters to them.

We also have internal networks which we are able to get involved with if there is an area we are particularly passionate about. I have had the privilege of getting involved with NextGen, who aim to represent and support the next generation of property professionals at British Land through organising internal and external networking events, training sessions and many other initiatives. I’m currently the network co-chair and I’m looking forward to seeing more of how we’re able to contribute to life at BL. Not to mention that the networks are also a great opportunity to socialise and learn outside of my daily responsibilities in the Finance team!

Thinking about the last few years with BL, I’m grateful for the countless learning moments, the culture and the supportive ecosystem which has contributed to my career growth. Here, it’s fair to say the journey is not just about individual progress but the collective elevation of everyone at BL.
